Race week: Weather

I’ve seen some interesting complaining online this week about the weather forecast hinting at rain for the Shamrock events this weekend. After the winter we’ve had, I’m not sure why though. Yes, a nice, cool, clear race day would be great, but if it rains then there’s no excuse to have not been ready for it. Every time I’ve been out in horrible weather this winter I’ve said, “Well, it might be [insert weather conditions here] on race day.” If you didn’t run in the rain or snow or the super cold or the oddly warm conditions recently, then you have no one to blame but yourself. I’m not trying to be mean here — it’s the truth.

That all being said, the weather forecasts I’ve seen are actually looking pretty good for the start of the half. Those running the full marathon should be in the clear too. It’s still too far away to be any more accurate than saying it might or might not rain on Sunday. Just have fun with it. And if you don’t like it, run harder so it’ll be over quicker.

I think that you’d be praying for torrential downpours after some of your training blog posts!

Actually, a light rain wouldn’t be too bad. I just don’t want wind. I’m over the wind.
